While waiting on the Lord, if one is not careful, one will definitely make mistakes. They should have just gone to adopt instead of buying a baby. Babies are not yams or goats to be sold at will.
According to Joisays blog, Patience Kayode, 62, and Ogochukwu Ikenne, 54, were arrested and quizzed
by the Kaduna State policemen for allegedly buying and selling a day
old baby girl for N150,000. According to reports, Ikenne, a teacher
left her country home in Delta State to buy the baby in Samaru, Zaria
for her son who she claimed had been married for 20 years without a
child.
Sources said Kayode is a trained nurse who
runs a clinic in Samaru but is notoriously known to sell babies to
members of the public.” There were arrested four days after closing an
illegal deal.
The nurse allegedly called Ikenne on phone to come
to Zaria to buy the baby whose mother had abandoned at the clinic after
delivery, however on return, Ikenne drew attention to herself when
buying a bus ticket in Kaduna for a night journey to Delta at the
popular Television Garage.
People thought it was a bit odd to see
a woman her age with new born baby and no one to breastfeed the child
while she cried. Policemen around the garage, had allegedly questioned
the paternity of the baby, but she could not provide useful answers.
Ikenne
revealed the deal when the policemen decided to take her in for more
questioning. According to sources, “The nurse confessed to the crime and
said she only mediated in the negotiation between the mother of the baby and Ikenne whom she had called to come and buy.
“The mother
of the baby had feared that she did not know the biological father of
the baby and she wanted to sell it to anybody who could take care of
her.
